With the passage of health care reform on Sunday, Nancy Pelosi, who The New York Daily News notes is a “San Francisco grandmother, who turns 70 Friday”, illustrates to all of us the power of women and what we can do when we work together.

Democratic political strategist Mark Siegel said this about Nancy Pelosi: “She’s Lyndon Johnson in a skirt.”   Siegel continued, “She was patient, tireless, persistent and cajoling — and she pulled off what no one else could.”

In Virginia, we have elected two Democratic women in special elections earlier this month – Eileen Filler-Corn to the House of Delegates and Sandy Evans for Fairfax County School Board.

We’re on a roll, and we hope you will join The Farm Team on Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17 in Lynchburg for our spring statewide meeting.

Our next challenge is the May municipal election in Lynchburg.  Mayor Joan Foster is running for re-election and The Farm Team is committed to helping her win this race.  Mayor Foster will be attending our Lynchburg meeting – come meet her and learn about the challenges facing candidates in the Lynchburg area and how you can help.

The full agenda can be found in the bar to the left of this note.

As a member, there is no cost to attend this meeting, meals are included.  Hotel reservations are the only expense if you choose to stay at the Craddock Terry.

To RSVP, please just respond to this email and let us know you would like to attend.

Upon your RSVP, you will receive a survey to indicate your choices for various events and lodging during the two-day meeting.  Hotel space is limited – a number of local women have offered their homes to interested TFT members free of charge.

Please RSVP before April 5th to guarantee your spot.

If you have any questions, please feel free to respond to this email and we will get back with you as soon as possible.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Susan Platt at 202-255-3455.

ABOUT POPLAR FOREST

“A visit to Poplar Forest will deepen your understanding of Thomas Jefferson. It is at this getaway that he focused on his personal pursuit of happiness- and created a distinctly personal place.

“Witness meticulous historic restoration in progress at the house Jefferson considered his best design for the life of a private citizen. Tour the house to learn about architecture, preservation and life in the early 19th  century. See ongoing excavation and view artifacts from the plantation community that lived and worked at Poplar Forest. Discover Jefferson’s vision for his gardens, ornamental plantings and farm at Poplar Forest as it emerges through archaeology. Enjoy special events each year, including musical performances, historical theater, and lectures.

“We invite you to explore the house and grounds at Thomas Jefferson’s retreat.  Each year, visitors come to Poplar Forest to see the newest discoveries and latest restored features… as well as to sense Jefferson’s presence in the house and feel an emotional connection to the man, his ideas, his boundless energy, and his ingenuity.”

A Message from Krystal Ball: 51

I wanted to take a moment to reach out and say THANK YOU!

Over the course of the last week caucuses have begun across Virginia’s 1st to elect delegates to our nominating convention on May 8th. So far we have had GREAT success locking up delegates committed to our campaign. Right and left we have been sweeping caucuses from Fredericksburg, to Stafford County to James City.

It was your commitment to our grassroots fundraising and field program that have allowed us the resources to out-organize our opponents. Currently we have 51 of the 101 delegates needed to lock up the nomination process; our opponent has 3.

It is the widely held belief nationally and throughout the district that our momentum cannot be stopped and it will only be a matter of days before we have secured the committed delegates to focus entirely on the general election.

Can you make another commitment of $10, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford to help ensure we move on to the General Election as swiftly as possible?

Again, thank you so much for your continued support, I am honored you are a part of the team.

Sincerely,

Krystal

P.S. OUR MOMENTUM CANNOT BE STOPPED. Please make a contribution today of $10, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford to launch us into the General Election. Anyone who makes a contribution of at least $10 today will be entered to win a seat at our JJ table tomorrow evening in Richmond; we would love to have you!
