Four years ago, Del. Watkins Abbitt, I-Appomattox, was running for re-election against Democrat Connie Brennan, of Nelson County.
On the editorial page, The News & Advance strongly endorsed Abbitt’s candidacy, hailing the veteran legislator and small businessman as a much-needed voice for rural Virginia.
Fast-forward four years. Abbitt decided to retire after three decades of serving the people of Central Virginia in the House of Delegates.
Brennan is again the Democratic candidate for the seat, facing Republican Matt Fariss and Independent Linda Wall in the 59th District.
