Mike Watson is this year’s “Let Them Eat Cake” candidate for the House of Delegates. Some readers may recall his harsh response in the Virginia Gazette to a thoughtful essay by a local resident pointing out the downside of the growing inequality in America. Watson concluded, “To the essay’s other problem, the rich having too much, my response is ‘So what!’
Here’s what Watson is missing. July unemployment statistics show Williamsburg’s unemployment rate at a staggering 14.1%, the second highest of any locality in Virginia. You and I know that our friends and neighbors need jobs to support their families. While the economic elite watch their wealth grow, the rest of us are watching our home values drop, our retirement savings shrink and local businesses fail by the dozen. And Mr. Watson says “So what!” His comment shows an appalling lack of understanding of the current economic climate and the community he would serve if elected.

Fortunately there is a better choice in Delegate Robin Abbott. Robin has dedicated her life to giving back to her community. She is recognized as one of the state’s leading consumer advocates.
For the past two years as Delegate, Abbott has been an independent-minded legislator who has worked to find compromise to get things done. She voted for a bipartisan law that will create new funding for transportation projects in Hampton Roads, worked with Governor McDonnell to audit VDOT, saving nine hundred million dollars in waste, and supported a balanced budget that does not raise taxes. Abbott will continue to focus on finding common ground to strengthen our economy, improve our local schools, and get traffic moving again.
Join me in supporting Robin with a contribution of $25, $50 or $100 now!
