Susan Platt recently had her email account compromised and a scammer had sent out a bogus message purporting to be her. The following is a message and an update from Susan regarding the situation:
If you were one of the folks in my “contacts” that received an e-mail from my address yesterday under the subject “Please Hurry” this was a scam. Someone took over my email account and mailed to a great number of you that I had my wallet stolen while in Scotland and needed $1,500 sent immediately. Thank you to the many of you that called and alerted me (the first at 4:45 a.m.) and to double check that I was not in trouble. For that I am most grateful. And to others that had my old email (ssrplatt@msn.com) I could still receive your messages via Blackberry.
As you can see, with the help of my computer guru, I now have my email back. I found out how sneaky and devious these characters really are. Please be careful whenever you receive anything in an email asking for any kind of information - no matter how innocent and authentic it may appear.
Apologies and Thanks again ….. And Happy Valentines Day.

This also happened to a local Republican activist in Prince William County recently. Non-partisan scum!
