An E-Bulletin from Chairman Bulova – Winter Storm Information

We have witnessed the latest Winter Storm that’s gripped the Northern Virginia region this past weekend. As we head into yet another storm tonight and tomorrow, I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some information and safety tips so that you can stay safe this season.

It is important to note that, all roads are owned by VDOT and they are responsible for plowing all State roads including interstate, primary, secondary, and residential roads. If you have not seen a plow in your subdivision by tomorrow, call VDOT at 703-383-VDOT or e-mail them at novainfo@vdot.virginia.gov with the location. VDOT will also accept photos of streets via email as visual support for roads that need attention.

You can also find helpful tips on the County webpage: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/emergency/prepare/winter/.

Some helpful hints include:

  • Do not touch downed power lines or anything in contact with downed power lines. Report this immediately to Dominion Virginia Power at 1-888-667-3000 or NOVEC at 703-335-0500.
  • Assist our fire departments by making sure you also dig out around fire hydrants.
  • Check on residents who may be home-bound and without power.
  • Try to avoid parking on the street, if possible, so that snowplows can clear as much snow as possible.
  • Keep your driveway and walks clear so that firefighters and medics can reach your house in case of an emergency.
  • If you are on the road, keep your gas tank full. If your vehicle breaks down, pull as far off the road as possible.

If you lose internet, cable or telephone service, keep these numbers handy:
