Dr. Larry Sabato

Women For Deeds"Politics is a good thing!" … is the slogan of Dr. Larry J. Sabato. According to the Wall Street Journal, Dr. Sabato is "probably the most quoted college professor in the land" and his Crystal Ball electoral analysis is the nation’s most accurate. In July 2008, Dr. Sabato correctly projected that Barack Obama would win the Presidency in a near-landslide. He predicted a 364-174 margin in the Electoral College, just one vote away from the final tally of 365-173, as well as the correct popular vote percentages. He also accurately predicted 99% of Senate, House, and Governor winners-by far the best showing in the business.

His spectacular record of predicting elections is not new. In 2006, for example, he was named the most accurate prognosticator by an unusual combination of news organizations: FOX News, MSNBC, CNBC, and Pew’s Project for Excellence in Journalism.

At home both in the classroom and the television studio, Dr. Sabato bridges the gap between the ivory tower and the real world of politics. The author of over 20 books and countless essays on politics, Dr. Sabato has taught more than 14,000 students in his career at Oxford University, Cambridge University, and the University of Virginia. He has received every major teaching award at the University of Virginia, and in 2001 he was named the Thomas Jefferson Award winner, U.Va’s highest honor that has been given to one person each year since the 1950s. Dr. Sabato is the University Professor of Politics and director of the U.Va. Center for Politics (www.centerforpolitics.org), founded in 1998 to improve civic education and the political process.

Dr. Sabato’s latest book is The Year of Obama: How Barack Obama Won the White House(Longman, April 2009).

An Important Message from State Senator Toddy Puller

Dear Friends,

In just a few short weeks, the January 12th special election in Fairfax County’s 37th Senate District will chart the course for our Commonwealth for years to come.  Republicans have been energized by their 2009 victories, and there is only one thing standing between them and the destruction of the progress we have made over the last eight years – our narrow, one-seat Democratic majority in the Senate.  We can continue to fight for our values and our future, but we need your help.

Our Democratic nominee in the 37th, Dave Marsden, has spent his entire career working to make Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia a better place for all of us. Dave is a thoughtful legislator, a leader who focuses on results, not partisanship. In his four years as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, Dave has always stood up to fight for women and children’s rights in Virginia.

With a track record of fighting to keep Fairfax safe, over 30 years working in juvenile justice issues, and a 100% backer of a woman’s right to choose, Dave is just the type of leader we need in the State Senate.

The Senate will be the last line of defense against those who want to advance an extremist and partisan agenda at the expense of the Commonwealth. We must not allow Virginia to become a one-party controlled, Republican-dominated state. Through our work in the Senate, we will keep Virginia moving forward and continue to fight for our values. But we need a strong majority to do that, and electing Dave Marsden on January 12th can give us that strong majority. Can you help today with a contribution of $250, $100, or $50?

You can visit Dave’s website at www.Marsdenforsenate.com to read more about Dave and the great work he done for Virginia during a lifetime of service. Dave is the kind of solution-oriented leader we need and with your help, he will be our next state senator. Will you contribute $250, $100, or $50 today?

Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,
Toddy Puller (State Senator  – D-36th)
And the Leadership of The Farm Team

PS – Dave Marsden has a history of fighting for our values. We need Dave in the Senate to help us keep Virginia moving forward and defend against those who want to tear down what we’ve built together. We need you to help Dave Marsden today with a contribution of $250, $100, or $50. Can you contribute today?
