Reminder–Please come out and support Dottie on Tues. Nov. 24 at PA Courthouse
Author: Ann Williams
Please come to the Princess Anne Courthouse in Virginia Beach this Tues. Nov. 24 morning in the General District/Criminal Court which begins at 9:00 am to support Dottie Holtz. She was arrested and charged with trespassing while at a health care rally at Anthem on Bonnie Road in October. Four police cars rushed to the scene and 6 policemen were present–a foolish waste of city resources in what can be best characterized as a ludicrous “mis-arrest.”
Dottie is a local resident, mother, grandmother and is retired from the Virginia Beach school system after 38 years of committed service. She is passionate in her belief that universal health care for all is the civil rights issue of our era.
Where is the accountability for Anthem and other insurance companies in District 2 where over 78,000 residents are uninsured while Anthem rakes in record profits???
Anthem continues to refuse coverage or charge local residents unrealistic prices for “pre-existing conditions.” One friend with diabetes recently told us that Anthem quoted her monthly coverage at $ 810 with an outrageous annual deductible of $10,000–this is egregious!
The most ironic point is that many pre-existing conditions can be well-managed with proactive care and correct medication. But the reality is that with the current economy insurance and health “care” are not within reach of most people. It is past time for
health insurance overhaul.
With sincere appreciation to Dottie for her courage in taking on Big Insurance. Please come out this Tuesday morning to support her in court. Court begins at 9:00 am.

Dear Friend,
As I told our wonderful supporters gathered in Richmond last night, the greatest part about running for elected office is the people you meet. For fifteen months, I’ve had the good fortune to make countless friends in every corner of the Commonwealth, who I’ll always remember. You have been gracious in offering support, encouragement, advice, and good cheer, and in doing so, have made an exhausting journey memorable.
Our work is not done. I entered this race because I believed that we had an opportunity to continue moving Virginia forward, and since last August, I’ve shared with you my plans to create new jobs, improve education, and fix transportation. These challenges are just as important and deserving of our attention this morning as they were throughout the campaign season.
As we move forward, I sincerely hope that each of you will keep working with the same energy and vigor you displayed in recent months, so we can continue to make Virginia a better place
It was an honor to serve as your nominee for Lieutenant Governor. Thank you again for your tremendous support, and let’s all continue doing our part to move our Commonwealth forward.
Sincerely,
Jody M. Wagner

Dear Supporters:
Thank you for all of your work and financial contributions to our campaign. You made a difference. Thanks to you I will return to Richmond. In March, when we started our re-election campaign, I asked some of you how you would describe our campaign. You responded, "Planting the Seeds for a Stronger Virginia". At our first fundraiser in the Spring, we handed out seeds of Virginia native wildflowers to remind all of us, that we need to nurture and protect our Commonwealth in order to see it continue to grow. We will continue the good work of those who have preceded us in Richmond.
While, we had some losses on the Democratic ticket, I am reminded of the powerful words of our Lion of the Senate, Senator Edward Kennedy:
For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.
Yours in Service,

This team worked incredibly hard for many months. I’m thankful for your support and proud and I’m humbled by your trust. But, I do not intend to do this alone. In preparation for the upcoming session, I plan to reach out to all of you again, individually and collectively, to understand your priorities and concerns, special expertise, availability and interest in ongoing involvement through the upcoming legislative session and beyond.
I know all too well that the political environment in Richmond–the statewide officeholders & their staffs, lobbyists, legislative colleagues and staffs, agency executives, boards and commissions, etc.–and my own learning curve will likely dominate the agenda. I think that I can–we can— counteract these forces to some degree and create a realistic set of goals based the needs of our community. This has been the way I have tried to be an effective School Board member and the way I think we can be most successful in Richmond.
We took on this challenge to defend and enrich this community that we love. Each of us need to be leaders, as the moment and the challenge requires.
Thomas Jefferson wrote: "Leadership necessitates forging a path: it requires us to accept challenges, to dare to make a difference."
This is a team of leaders that I am proud to be a part of.
Thank you again for your unwavering support.

Margaret Vanderhye: Thank You

Dear Ronald & Susan,
Thank you all for the hard work and dedication you devoted to our campaign for my reelection. The energy and enthusiasm you demonstrated and the commitment you showed throughout these past eight months – and the past two years – has sustained me and reaffirmed my belief that people want to be a part of something that makes a difference.
I want to thank the many interns and volunteers of all ages who hosted events, made phone calls, canvassed neighborhoods, stuffed envelopes, brought us food and otherwise cheered us on as advocates in their own neighborhoods.
Thanks too to all of our generous contributors who funded our campaign in the belief that people in the 34th district want responsible and responsive leaders. Two checks in particular tell the story: one for $25 and one for $25,000. Each had a notation on the memo line that read: "For good government".
We did not prevail in this election, but our ideals and our expectations for "good government" must endure. In my 2007 victory speech, I used the lines from a favorite passage that is equally relevant for this day: We have fought the good fight, we have finished our course, we have kept the faith" (II Timothy, 4:7).
To each of you who fought along side us for a better Virginia and for stronger communities here in our district, my heartfelt gratitude and promise that my commitment to you and to public service will continue, but perhaps in a different fashion.
Remember that government should be what we do with people, not to them, and insist on that principle from those who would speak on your behalf.
As always, it is has been an honor and a privilege to serve you and to serve Virginia.
