Priscilla Bele announces for NN Commissioner of the Revenue

Priscilla BelePriscilla S. Bele, Chief Deputy to the Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue, announced today her campaign to succeed Mr. Charles Crowson, who has held the elected office since 1994. Crowson intends to retire in December.

Bele reached the decision to run for Newport News Commissioner of the Revenue after 15 years as Crowson’s Chief Deputy. During this time, she has served the City of Newport News as a talented senior manager, adept at balancing the equally important demands of government and private citizens. As Chief Deputy, Bele currently supervises over 40 personnel, operating at two locations within the City. Moreover, Bele has played a vital role in the implementation of modern office technologies throughout her tenure.

Bele began work with the City as a senior business auditor in 1988. She is a Certified Public Accountant, member of numerous professional organizations, and recipient of two awards for outstanding service from the Commissioners of the Revenue Association.

Bele earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Christopher Newport University in 1981. She has held leadership positions in the CNU Alumni Society since 2005.

The Commissioner of the Revenue in Newport News is responsible for the assessment of various state and local taxes. The Office oversees the assessment of over $125 million in revenue for the City of Newport News. Bele’s experience as Chief Deputy makes her uniquely qualified for this vital function of government. She will seek the Democratic Party’s nomination for this elected municipal office in the primary scheduled for June 9, 2009.

  2. she may have oppposition but as of today they haven’t filed.
