A Kaine on the Obama transition team

Just not the one you might have been thinking about ;) According to The Richmond Times Dispatch,  Anne Holton, wife of Governor Tim Kaine, has been working on the transition team of President-elect Barack Obama.

The president-elect’s Web site lists at least 23 areas in which Obama and Biden are crafting policies. They include health care, disabilities, poverty and women’s issues — topics Holton has addressed as a lawyer, judge and first lady.

No word on whether this volunteer position will lead to an appointment with the new administration.

Moran backs Herring for 46th

MORAN BACKS HERRING FOR HOUSE SEAT

ALEXANDRIA – Brian Moran made the following statement in support of Charniele Herring’s campaign for the House of Delegates. Moran vacated the seat on Friday to run full time for Governor. Herring has been an active member of the community, an appointee of Governor Kaine, and a leader on the Alexandria Democratic Committee. Herring would be only the second African-American delegate from Northern Virginia.

“I’ve gotten to know Charniele through the active role she’s played in our local community, and I’m confident she is the right person to represent this community,” Moran said. “She will bring important experiences and a strong set of values to Richmond. My decision to focus, full time, on the campaign for Governor is made easier knowing that my constituents can have her strong representation.”

Herring is president of the West End Business Association; a two-time Governor Kaine appointee to the Council on the Status of Women; a member and former chair of Alexandria’s Commission for Women; and a member of the Youth Policy Commission. She chairs the Public Policy Committee for Hopkins House (an early childhood education institution), and is on the board of directors for the Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness. She also received the prestigious Monsignor Geno Baroni Award for Social Justice. As a participant with Social Action Linking Together (S.A.L.T.), she worked to expand funding for the Homeless Intervention Act, which became a state-wide program.

Early voting is from 6pm – 9pm tonight and the unassembled caucus is 6pm-9pm tomorrow night. Voting takes place at William Ramsay Recreation Center, 5650 Sanger Avenue, Alexandria, VA.
